Silliness in our household....

We have been goofing around lately.... Shaun asked me to put a few of Alexa's hair clips in his hair, and then he proceeded around acting purely 'silly'!!! Although, now he has an idea for 'crazy hair day' at school... maybe he'll win a prize??? He can have a very good sense of humor (at times.... when he's not otherwise grumpy!!)
He is a little anxious for summer to come. So, in preparation, he has been practising his snorkeling in the bath tub! He is starting to get the hang of breathing and not being nervous in the water. So, with practise in the tub and swimming lessons, I think we'll be spending a lot of time at the beach this year!!

I LOVE bed time!!

My sleeping babies....

Shaun is still my stellar sleeper... he sleeps so soundly, it amazes me! He thinks it's funny when I tell him that everynight I go into his room, and snuggle for a quick minute, and tuck him in, and he doesn't remember a thing!

ok- distracted... back to my title...

Over the course of my 5.5 years as a mother, I know I have said 'I Love bedtime' so many times, in so many different contexts, and with so many different intentions!! ... I have been SO exhausted that I could just barely make it to bedtime and, literally, had nothing more to give, and I loved bedtime for the simple fact that, I, could also get some rest....then there are the moments when I fall asleep with the kids, in a much needed FULL nights sleep.... there was a period of time when the kids would readily go to bed, without a fuss, without hesitation, hugs and kisses was all it took, and there was nothing to 'not' love about bedtime....then everything turned upside down, and the past few months have been very trying.... Alexa was not going to bed easily, and it had become very stressful... for all of us involved.... I hated bedtime.

In order to keep some of my sanity... I took a step back, and instead of this being a stressful time, for all involved, I have taken it down a notch, and tried to really enjoy this time. It is really, the only time I have, where there are no timelines associated with anything. Of course we have a time in mind that is our target to have them both in bed, but I have made the conscious decision that if it's an extra 5 minutes, no one will be any worse off. If anything, it is 5 more minutes I have with them to snuggle, get big bear hugs and tell them goodnight stories.

Although Shaun has always been a fantastic sleeper, and has hardly ever fought bedtime, he is enjoying this time too (we have to read about dinosaurs first, of course, but then I have been taking the time to talk about his day, and then I tell him stories about 'when I was little' (He LOVES these, and he doesn't want to go to sleep without a story first!!)

Alexa really wants to snuggle as she falls asleep now. It is a much better alternative to fighting/ screaming, so this is now a nightly routine. Sometimes I am thinking about all the other things I could be doing, but in the end, nothing beats snuggling with the little girl who is growing up all too quickly.... and, I know, all too soon, they may not want to snuggle, and I will have wished I spent those extra 5 minutes, snuggling. And so... for now... I will...I do... take the time... and now.... I LOVE BEDTIME!!

Alexa was so attached to this valentine card, she had to sleep with it... tucked right under her arm! She is very much a blankie girl, and ALWAYS plays with the strings while she is drifting off to sleep...

Good night little ones....

Priceless moment

Ok, so things have been pretty ho-hum these days. I'm in the middle of the winter 'boredom', and have cabin fever waiting for spring. However, the kids have given me lots of smiles/ laughs and much more! Here is a story for you!

The other night when putting Shaun to bed, I told him that I loved him, Alexa, and daddy more than anyone else in the world.... but he said ' well mommy, shouldn't you LOVE YOURSELF first? Because, if you don't love yourself, you can't love anyone else.'

Honestly, those were his exact words. He caught me off guard, as, of course, he is so right. After reassuring him, and letting him know he was very wise to think that, I asked him where he heard that before, and he didn't really answer- just shrugged his shoulders. I have been thinking about every movie he has seen, or maybe they talk about that at school? I don't know, but I am so amazed that if/ when he heard it, he remembered it so well!

Words from the children... I will remember that well, when I am being hard on myself... Thank you Shaun!
