Thinking...

Although I haven't had much to write about lately, (I guess our winter snow falls really did provide some excitement in our lives!) I have still been thinking a lot... about everything. I have become really pessimistic about some things, and wonder how we can change it for our kids.

All we seem to hear about these days is the recession and how bad it is for so many people. I am thankful everyday I still have a job. Not that it is a huge threat right now, but it is just on so many peoples minds that it is hard to not become paranoid that you'll be the next one.

We really are in unprecedented times, and I wonder what our kids will think when they look back. I often wonder what it was really like to live in the depression of the 30's ... not very many people like to talk about it, and I can't really blame them. Who would want to dig up the darkest days of the past?

We are in a time when interest rates are SO low.... I hear my parents talk about how interest rates were 15-18% in the 80's, when I was young, and it is the exact opposite for our kids. Will they face the 15-18% when they are our age? I hope not.

People are losing their jobs, their homes, their lives really. Everything we work so hard to build up can be taken away so quickly. And then the businesses seem to thrive.

I am beginning a rant, and I could probably write for hours, with how I think a lot of this is a conspiracy, that governments get elected because of corporate sponsors and support and really they are all looking out for themselves and it makes it that much harder for the hard working person to get ahead.

I won't go on like I feel I could, but I wonder how I will explain how we felt to our kids when they are older, and what impact all of this will have on them. Sometimes I feel bad for our kids (already) for all the problems they are going to have to face as adults.

So, in order to put a positive spin on all of this, I have to believe that the children from our generation will be brighter and have so much conviction as to change the detrimental ways of our current global system... it is a big job on their shoulders...

I am so thankful that we continue to be in a good position in a time of such difficult times.... With any luck we will come out of this recession in a better position and will be able to provide good advice for our children in the future.

slacker!

I have not had the umph lately to post anything, despite being busy and lots happening around here! I will try my best to get caught up!
(As a side note- yes your comments worked mom... so keep them coming I love comments!!)

I don't even know where to start... Easter weekend.... It was busy! We made a picnic and ventured out to Parlee Beach for the first time this year! The kids loved playing at the park!

Saturday we went to the zoo- Alexa was a lot more interested this year, so I'm sure we'll be frequenting the zoo more regularly! They found some funny looking chickens!! Alexa thought they were funny!

Sunday morning we woke up to about 20 cm of snow, and then it snowed all day and all night... a pretty heavy spring storm for April.... It is almost all melted again, so we're really hoping we don't see any more 'white stuff'!

Easter egg hunt... had to cancel the outdoor hunt and bring it inside- a little too obvious in the snow!

Money and candy.... does it get any better?

we were also invited to my Uncle Paul's house and we had a great time with our 'family' out here!!

Uncle Albert thought Alexa would like a BIG bite of his maple walnut cake.... yummy!! (Aparently no one thought she woulg go for it... ) !

Good for a smile and maybe even a laugh!

Easter...

Spring is so refreshing and revitalizing. I love the new leaves on the trees, the colors, the fresh air in the house, the kids love playing outside and everything seems new again.

Even amidst all of this, I have always found Easter weekend to be difficult. To remember our Saviour, that he died for our sins, so that we may live. Spiritually it is also an awakening, each year. I feel closer to God at this time of the year... year after year. I don't think it will ever get old or I will ever feel differently about it. It is a time of mourning, yet a time of celebration.

Our church used to hold a big party after the late mass on Saturday night, to celebrate all the newly baptised people and to celebrate that we are living because of our Saviour.

I miss those celebrations. I have not found a church here that I really like yet. The one I went to was highly disappointing- where they just read the whole mass out of a little book and played music from a tape 'on command'. I'm still looking, but in the meantime, I find it helpful to be by the sea.... I watched the sun come through the clouds last night, it was beautiful, and made me feel like God is still with me, no matter where I am.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter! ... I know I will!!

Haircut!

Before the haircut...
I thought it was time to get Alexa's haircut 'oficially'! It continues to grow quickly, but is still quite fine and thin. maybe this will help to 'thicken' it up! She was very good and just sat quietly on my lap the whole time. She became quite shy.... who was that girl??? :) Anyway... here's her new do!
wow... look at these cheeks!!!
